homeschooling families, homeschooling co-ops,
Christian school classrooms, church youth groups,
VBS groups, church missions committees,
We would love for your group to "adopt" the Hoyt family! By "adopting" the Hoyts as a missionary family, your group will commit to educating others on the people of Uganda and on the ministry of the Hoyts, will commit to organizing and holding at least one fundraiser with the proceeds being donated to the Hoyt family's account at eMi (a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation), and will commit to praying for the Hoyt family. What you will receive in return for your commitment is the awesome joy that comes from reaching beyond ourselves by helping to meet the needs of those on the other side of the globe.
There are several ways that the goal of educational awareness can be accomplished. Homeschools, homeschool co-ops, and Christian school classrooms may particularly be interested in beginning with a unit study on Uganda. If you enjoy lapbooking, there is a free lapbook unit study for countries at Homeschool Helper. (If you aren't familiar with lapbooking, you may want to first visit 4Him Kids for more information.)
You could also hold an Africa Fair, with the children being responsible for putting together educational booths on different countries in Africa. Just be sure someone is responsible for designing a booth on Uganda and the Hoyt family's missions work there!
You could have representatives from your group put together a PowerPoint presentation on Uganda and the missions work of the Hoyts. You could then hold an informational session sharing the presentation.
You could have representatives from your group design a tri-fold board sharing about the Hoyts and the people of Uganda. The board will then be displayed in a visible spot in your regular gathering place.
Use your imagination to come up with other ways to educate yourselves and others on the people of Uganda and the missions work of the Hoyts!
There are a variety of ways your group can help raise funds for the Hoyts. Here are a few ideas to get you started on brainstorming a fundraiser that will work for your group:
Can Collecting Drive (to cash in on the deposit refunds)
Lemonade Stand and Bake Sale
Silent (or not) Auction
Play or Concert (with ticket proceeds being donated to the Hoyts)
Again, use your imagination to come up with a fundraiser that your group will enjoy doing, while at the same time helping out the Hoyts and the people of Uganda!
You will be donating the proceeds from your fundraiser to the Hoyt family's account at eMi (a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation). To make your donation, go to https://emisecure.org/donate.html. In order for your donation to directly help support the Hoyt family, please be sure to designate Steve and Melinda Hoyt in the "Designation" box.
Please remember to pray for the Hoyt family and the people of Uganda!
